As a certified Gailey stan, I was shocked and horrified to learn there was a Gailey work I had not read, conveniently at my local library (thank you Lincoln City Libraries). Eat the Rich is a collection of three comic book issues about a woman Joey who is summering at her rich boyfriend Astor’s family’s island home. She struggles to fit in, especially once she accidentally learns that all the rich fucks on the island participate in a sickening hedonistic ritual: eating their employees once they “retire”.
This has a sort of supernatural edge to it, but mostly is rooted in a type of reality. I found the way it wrapped up to be way too quick and neat. Still, a fun summer read. Normally I read graphic novels because I’m a pretentious fuck, so I thought I was going to dislike the traditional comic style, but it does suit violence pretty well.
Recommended to those who wish to indulge their latent or not-so-latent bisexuality at the beach and talk about the ethics of class differences and vegetarianism.
